Minehead Museum is run by a friendly team of volunteers and enthusiasts. We are always looking for new faces to join us and there are many ways you can help celebrate and protect Minehead’s rich history and heritage; here are some:
Minehead Museum is run entirely by volunteers, and stewards to welcome visitors are essential. If you are the kind of person who enjoys engaging with others, already knows something of the history of Minehead or would like to learn, then greeting visitors as a steward on the desk is a fulfilling way to help out.
Help with research is always needed. Whether it’s a particular interest of your own, historical, geological, archaeological – or perhaps, a more recent social development in Minehead or Alcombe. If you have ideas to offer on any subject, do please get in touch.
Whether you have library or archival experience or simply an orderly mind, cataloguers are essential. Every artefact and photograph in the Museum’s care has to be logged. Minehead Museum uses Modes Complete Software which has been designed for museum use. Training in its use will be given.
If you have some practical skills then assisting with maintenance may be just up your street. Done mostly out of season, the Museum normally being closed from early November till late March, this could a be a satisfying way of not only supporting the Museum, but also of occupying those dreary winter days.
As a charity our only sources of income are visitor donations, fundraising events, publication sales and grants. We welcome help in researching and submitting funding applications, running events to raise donations, and identifying new, imaginative ways of generating financial support.
Could you help promote our Museum more widely? Not only helping us in the traditional use of print, such as our quarterly newsletter and regular press releases, but help us break into today’s work of social media? We’d love to hear from you if this is your particular interest.
